Surroundings

Chiusi della Verna is a place that fascinates not only for its natural beauty, but also for its spiritual and historical relevance. The Sanctuary of St. Francis at La Verna is nestled in the woods of the Casentino Forest National Park between the valleys of the Arno and Tiber rivers. Among the Sanctuary's most striking sights are the small church of Santa Maria degli Angeli-the first building erected on the Sacred Mountain-and the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, which houses two extraordinary works by Andrea Della Robbia. Traveling along the Vallesanta in the direction of Badia Prataglia, we arrive at Camaldoli where we find the Monastery of the same name and the Ancient Hermitage founded by Saint Romuald in the 11th century. Places of meditation and peace ideal destinations for those seeking deep contact with faith. Today, the entire territory of the Casentino Forest National Park, particularly the municipality of Chiusi della Verna continues to be an important center of spirituality and attraction for those seeking a deep connection with nature.

Hiking

If you want hikes to be done in stages the area offers numerous walking opportunities the most important the Way of St. Francis, also known as the Way of St. Francis, which connects La Verna with Assisi 189 km long. It is possible to apply for credentials inside the Villa delle Rose Holiday Home. Another very interesting route is La Via Romea. This path, which passed through this area, was one of the main pilgrimage routes for the faithful arriving from all over Europe; its travel was especially popular with pilgrims heading to Rome or Santiago de Compostela. Instead, if you are looking for shorter routes that can be done in a day, we suggest the Ring of Mount Penna, a route of medium difficulty that winds through beech forests and abbots offering splendid views of the Casentino and the Bosco delle Fate path from the suggestive forest that starts from the town of Chiusi until it reaches under the cliff of the Verna Sanctuary and from there to the historic Glacier. IF YOU WISH TO BE ACCOMPANIED DURING THE EXCURSIONS THE FACILITY WILL PUT YOU IN TOUCH WITH EXPERT GUIDES OF THE AREA.
